Repairing Cracked Tiles

Cracked tiles are a common problem in bathrooms and kitchens, but they can be repaired easily and inexpensively. If the crack is small, it may be possible to repair it with a tile repair kit. However, if the crack is large or the tile is badly damaged, it may be necessary to replace the tile.

How to Repair a Small Crack in a Tile

  1. Clean the crack with a damp cloth.
  2. Apply a small amount of tile repair compound to the crack using a putty knife.
  3. Smooth the compound over the crack and let it dry for 24 hours.
  4. Once the compound is dry, sand it smooth with fine-grit sandpaper.
  5. Apply a sealant to the repaired area to protect it from water damage.

How to Replace a Cracked Tile

  1. Remove the old tile by chipping away at the grout around it with a chisel and hammer.
  2. Clean the area where the old tile was located.
  3. Apply a thin layer of tile adhesive to the back of the new tile.
  4. Set the new tile in place and press it firmly into the adhesive.
  5. Allow the adhesive to dry for 24 hours.
  6. Once the adhesive is dry, apply grout to the joints between the tiles.
  7. Wipe away any excess grout with a damp sponge.
